'Guru Jayanti' Celebration gets underway in Batadrava

Nagaon: With festive jubilation and religious zeal among the devotees, the three-day long celebration of Saint Sankardev's 570th Birth Anniversary at his birthplace in Batadrava under the Nagaon district has formally got underway today.

The celebration popularly known in Assamese tradition as 'Guru Jayanti' in Batadrava began with 'Taal kubuwa' followed by Manjira Naam, Aaisokolor Nam, and Khol Prasang.

During the programme, an Assam level Borgeet Competition was held where around fifty Contestants from various parts of the state participated. The inaugural ceremony of the Competition was attended by Devananda Devgoswami, President of Batadrava Than reception Committee, Brajen kakati and other executives of the Committee. After that recitation of Guru Charit, in the evening an All Assam level Dihanaam Competition was organized.

A total of 20 teams have participated in the event. It is worth mentioning that tomorrow, after the common naam prasanga, a Cultural procession will be taken out which will be flagged off by Bhogeswar Borah, executive President of Batadrava Than reception Committee.

In the evening, total 570 earthen lamps will be lit. A Bhaona 'Nrisingha yatra' will be performed by the artists of Salaguri Satra, Batadrava.

On September 20, after the morning prayers, a religious meeting will be held under the aegis of Devananda Devgoswami. The meeting will be graced by State Water resources minister Keshab Mahanta, State BJP president Ranjit Das, Owner of Satellite Channel 'Prag News', Sanjiv Narayan, Legislators Angoorlata Deka, Dimbeswar Das and Rupak Sharma amongst others.

In the evening Various Sattriya cultural programmes along with two Ankiya Bhaonas namely 'Seeta Haran' and 'Bali Badh' will be staged.

It is to be mentioned here that every year during the Guru Jayanti celebration in Batadrava, Lakhs of devotees throng at Batadrava than to offer prayers at kirtanghar and participates in grand Celebration.
