Guwahati Bihu Sanmilani gives away awards

GUWAHATI, April 17: With the end of Phagun and Chait, pattering raindrops have announced the arrival of Bohag – making Assam celebrate the rich tapestry of colours, the Rongali Bihu.

The Guwahati Bihu Sanmilani, with a legacy of 67 years, is one of the most sought-after Bihutolis where artistes descend from all over the north-eastern states to showcase and share their culture.  Since its inception, people in lakhs throng the venue each year to witness the celebrations at Latasil Field. Guwahati Bihu Sanmilani, in association with digital media outlet TIME8, honoured ten individuals and organizations with ‘Shreemoyee Oxomi Bota 2018’ for their significant contribution in the development of Assam and its art, culture and economy.

This year the ‘Shreemoyee Oxomi Bota 2018’ was given away in the field of culture, film, literature and journalism, sports and business and economy. Acclaimed Assamese actors Dulal Roy and Moloya Goswami received the prestigious award for their contribution in the field of art and culture. Noted film producer Shankarlal Goenka received the award for his contribution in the field of Assamese cinema. Former Axam Xahitya Xabha president Kanak Sen Deka received the award for his contribution in the field of literature and journalism. International athlete from Assam Hima Das, who recently represented India in the Commonwealth Games 2018, was also awarded ‘Shreemoyee Oxomi Bota 2018’.

The awards were given away by former State Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi in the presence of the president of Guwahati Bihu Sanmilani Kailash Sharma, general secretary Nilopam Das, Managing Editor of TIME8 Utpal Kanta and others.
