Guwahati Grenade Blast: Prime Accused Bijoy Asom arrested from Doomdooma

Guwahati: Prime Accused in the Guwahati Grenade Blast and Senior United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I) cadre Bijoy Asom incident on last Wednesday Bijoy Asom has been arrested by the Assam Police from Dangori area in Doomdooma under Tinsukia District.

Speaking to The Sentinel Digital, Commissioner of Police, Deepak Kumar said, “Today at around 5 pm, Doomdooma police had arrested the prime accused to the Guwahati Grenade Blast incident Bijoy Asom from Doomdooma. He will be brought to Guwahati for further investigation.”

Commissioner of Police Deepak Kumar also thanked the Superintendent of Police of Golaghat, Nagaon, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia District for their constant support in nabbing all the six culprits in connection to the Guwahati Grenade Blast incident.

“This has been a major success to the Assam Police Department; we have managed to crack down the case within a week of the Grenade Blast incident, I personally thank all the police officials of the Districts of Assam for their pro-active approach in solving the case,” added Commissioner of Police Deepak Kumar.

It may be mentioned, the Assam Police had arrested Pranamoy Rajguru, Assamese actress Jahnabi Saikia, Chinmoy Lahkar from Guwahati, Amit Ballav Goswami from Golaghat and Indra Mohan Bora from Nagaon in connection to the case. Both Rajguru and Saikia were arrested within 24 hours of the blast from Guwahati’s Panjabari area.

As many as 12 people were injured in the Grenade Blast incident on last Wednesday, two SSB personnel were also injured during the blast.

Earlier, Commissioner of police, Deepak Kumar had informed that two bike-borne lobbed the grenade near the Guwahati Central Mall and fled from the spot. Janabi Saikia was driving the scooty, while pillion rider Bijoy Asom hurled the grenade upon the security officials.

Later, Saikia dropped Bijoy at Ganeshguri from where he was picked up by Chinmoy and dropped at Khanapara. “Bijoy boarded a Nagaon-bound vehicle from Khanapara and after reaching his destination, he contacted Indra who helped him to flee,” CP Kumar added further.
