Guwahati Railway Station to Get a New Digital Museum Soon

Guwahati: Guwahati Railway Station is all set to get a new digital museum soon. The new museum will showcase the rich heritage of Indian Railways.

The project involves the installation of digital screens of various dimensions to display multimedia content on the glorious history of Indian Railways as well as its latest developments.

Talking to the media about the project, Pranav Jyoti Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of the Maligaon-headquartered Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), said "A digital museum is being planned in Guwahati. Besides, as the railway network spreads further to States like Manipur and Mizoram, similar projects will be planned there”

The digital museums will showcase the legacy of Indian Railways through one or two-minute-long clips at a convenient location at railway stations and also in other passenger areas.

The digital content will be provided by the heritage department of the Railway Board.

According to media reports, Over 40 short films on heritage buildings, locomotives, train stations, hill railways, and other subjects have been made to make people aware of railway’s heritage.

The films will be displayed for the viewers once the digital museum at Guwahati Railway Station becomes operational.

Digital museums are being launched at various railway stations across the country in line with the Rail Display Network (RDN) policy.

As per the RDN policy, high-tech centralised network of display screens are being planned at major stations by 2021.

The screens, which will be installed on platforms, waiting rooms and other important areas, will highlight information related to arrival, departure, running status, the particular platform any train would halt at, as well as the positioning of coaches, in multiple languages.

While there is no time frame set for the completion of the project but the project is expected soon.

The Railway Board is planning to set up digital museums at 53 stations all over India.

As a part of the initiative, digital museums have been recently installed in Darjeeling, Siliguri Town and Jalpaiguri.

The RDN plans to have a high-tech centralised network of display screens at major stations by 2021. The screens, which will be installed on platforms, waiting rooms and other important areas, will highlight information related to arrival, departure, running status, the particular platform any train would halt at, as well as the positioning of coaches, in multiple languages. Emergency messages and information related to disaster management will also be highlighted if required,” Sharma said.
