Haflong Town Committee conducts cleanliness drive

Haflong, August 14:  The Haflong Town Committee on Sunday organized cleanliness drive as part of the 70th Independence Day celebration.

The drive was led by North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) Chief Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa along with the NCHAC chairperson Ranu Langthasa and Executive Member Samuel Changsan.

The main objective of the cleanliness drive was to make people aware of the duties and responsibilities to keep the town neat and clean. A large number of people participated in the cleanliness drive from infront of Don Bosco School till the market area and surrounding areas of Haflong Lake. Various NGOs, SHGs and club members actively cleaned the jungle, and the drains of the main road.

After the programme, a meeting was held at the Cultural Institute Hall to discuss ways on keeping the town clean. Several suggestive plans were given which needed participation of the people in general.

Speaking on the occasion, CEM Gorlosa said all the government department offices and the office campus should be cleaned at least once in a month and instructed the PS to take action against the officials whose office was found to be not clean.  He also requested all the people of Dima Hasao in general to keep their environment neat and clean.  

Among others, Deputy Commissioner, A Barua, chairperson Ranu Langthasa, deputy chairman  Hem Bahadur Chetri,  Principal Secretary Ramesh Thaosen, Executive Member Fleming Syla Rupsi, Executive Member Samuel Changsan also spoke on the occasion and appealed to the people to participate in the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan.

Earlier the Chief Executive Officer of Haflong Town Committee, Debanon Daulagupu welcomed the guests and dignitaries and explained the various projects to be implemented in near future in regard to  waste magement. He also appreciated the NGOs, general public and the government officials for their support to the Haflong Town Committee.
