Hailakandi Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli appeals to maintain peace, communal harmony

Hailakandi: The Hailakandi district administration has appealed to the people to maintain peace, communal harmony and brotherhood to defeat the sinister designs of certain elements trying to create rift in society.

In a letter addressed to the members of the public, Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli said the crying need of the hour is to maintain peace and communal harmony ‘as the district is going through a difficult phase’ and to work towards lasting peace for ensuring all-round development.

Jalli said the administration had to impose curfew to act as a deterrent to the anti-social elements, though it has caused inconvenience to the people. “I am aware that imposition of curfew has caused inconvenience to you. I promise you that it is a temporary measure and done to act as a deterrent to the anti-social elements, “ she added.

Urging the people not to be swayed by emotions and not to believe what is being circulated in social media platforms, Jalli said, “I appeal to everyone to cross-check and verify the information with the district administration.”

Appealing to the people to stand strong against forces trying to create rift in society, Jalli said the administration has opened a control room with numbers 03844-223377/1077 and also a police control room with numbers 100/03844-222253/224595 for the public to report on any incident and also bring to their notice any objectionable post on social media. “The administration is wholly committed to ensuring peace and security to all its denizens and is working day in and day out towards it, “ she asserted.

Jalli said the district has enough force to tackle any situation and that ‘strict and immediate action’ will be taken in the event of any incident.

The Deputy Commissioner assured the people that the miscreants who triggered the violence will be brought to book and stringent action will be initiated against them as per provisions of law.

Seeking the support and cooperation of the people in bringing back lasting and durable peace in the district, Jalli said, “Let us all rise in unison to inflict a crushing blow to the nefarious forces and to usher in peace, progress and prosperity in the days ahead.”

Meanwhile, following drastic improvement in the situation in the past two days, the administration relaxed curfew from 7 am on Tuesday till midnight. Only night curfew will remain in force for another eight to nine days, said the authorities.

Internet services have resumed on Tuesday morning after it was suspended on Friday night following unrest in the afternoon.

Banks, markets, educational institutions and government offices opened up with public and private vehicles seen plying on the roads.

A grievously injured person admitted at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) has undergone successful operation and is stated to be out of danger. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Omar Sharif visited the SMCH to take stock of the health of the patients undergoing treatment there. “A team of doctors in Guwahati is ready to be flown in if any need arises. The issue of shifting the patient to Guwahati was discussed but was ruled out as the travelling time may have exhausted the patient, “ said Jalli.

In an order issued on Tuesday, the administration has asked the officers and staff to report on time in their office following the improvement in the situation and directed them not to leave headquarters without the prior approval of the authorities, warning that any deviation will be viewed very seriously.
