Hailakandi, July 20: Hailakandi district is making all out preparations for conducting the National Deworming Day (NDD) on August 10. Chairing a meeting of the District Health Society at his office conference room on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan asked all the health officials and functionaries to gird up their loins to administer albendazole tablets to the 2,38,015 children aged 1-19 years focusing on school children, anganwadis and out-of-school children.

“Anganwadi and school-based mass deworming programme is safe, cost-effective, and can reach crores of children quickly. Deworming has been shown to reduce absenteeism in schools; improve health, nutritional, and learning outcomes; and increase the likelihood of higher-wage jobs later in life,” said District Media Expert, Monika Das.

Khan also reviewed all the ongoing programmes and activities of the health department, including Intensified Mission Indradhanush, Health and Wellness Centres, RBSK screening, RNTCP and ANC under the Extended Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (EGSA). The Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman asked all the health officials and workers to put in all their efforts to achieve cent percent saturation coverage in the ongoing EGSA in 247 identified villages across the district before its deadline of August 15.
