Hailakandi SP seeks cooperation for smooth and hassle-free Puja

Hailakandi, October 3: Superintendent of Police, Hailakandi, Prabjyoti Goswami appealed to the Puja committees to help in the maintence of law and order during the ensuing Durga Puja festival.

Goswami asked the Puja committees to exercise extra caution and vigil to nip in the bud the sinister designs of anti-social elements out to disturb peace and tranquility, stated a press reelase. To ensure security to the Puja revelers, Goswami asked the Puja committees to install CCTVs in the pandals to keep a hawk’s eye on anti-social elements.

The SP said the police would go in for anti-sabotage exercise to ensure incident-free and hassle-free puja and sought the Puja committees’ support and cooperation towards this end. Instructions have been issued to the OCs, ICs of police stations, outposts and pickets to maintain all-round vigil during the Puja days.

Goswami urged upon the Puja committees to install fire extinguishers in pandals and to keep sufficient stock of sand to meet any exigency.  The SP asked the Puja committees to enroll adequate number of volunteers for keeping round-the-clock vigil and to submit the me of volunteers ahead of the festivity without fail.

“Strict discipline has to be maintained by the Puja committees at any cost,” Goswami said, adding, “The police will take action as per law against construction of pandals on roads hampering traffic flow and collecting subscription from any individuals by putting up road blockades.”

Goswami asked the Puja committees to obtain necessary permission for taking out processions on the day of immersion well in advance and not to obstruct traffic flow by blocking roads unnecessarily. Immersion procession will begin at 4 pm and will traverse along the route plan specified by the SP with the timeframe set for completion of immersion by 10 pm. Water Resources Department will keep the ghats in a state of readiness for smooth immersion of idols.

An Emergency Cell will be opened on the day of immersion close to the ghat. Team of magistrates, police personnel, doctors and para-medical staff will be manning the cell, Goswami pointed out. Fire tenders will be stationed at Hailakandi, Lala and Panchgram on the day of immersion with NDRF personnel ready to rescue anyone from being drowned. A control room will also function in the Disaster Magement Cell with toll free no. 1077.  

While seeking cooperation from one and all for a smooth and hassle-free Puja, the SP requested the public to bring to the notice of the police immediately if they notice any suspicious objects or persons, ebling the police to act swiftly. Meanwhile, the district administration has decided to enforce dry day on Astami, bami and Dashami.
