Hailstrom brings hope to Tingkhong small tea growers

Dibrugarh, Feb 25: Hailstorm lashed out in several parts of the district, including Lahowal and Tingkhong  LAC areas, on Thursday. In Lahowal, two brothers were electrocuted when they tried to cut an uprooted tree which had fallen on a power transmission line.

According to eye witness, Dipak Mura and Shyamu Mura, both brothers residing at Pipartoli line of Green Wood Tea Estate, Assam Tea Company, were electrocuted while cutting a fallen tree with axes. The death of the two brothers by electrocution caused considerable sensation among the people of the area. The hailstorm, which swept over all villages under Modarkhat areas on Thursday, damaged properties of more than thousand villagers. Lahowal MLA Ritupar Barua rushed to the affected areas and reviewed the situation arising out of two persons’ death and loss of properties. He assured to help the people so that they could overcome the crisis.

Splash of rain in the advent of spring this year, though brought hope amongst the tea growers of better yield of green leaves, but hailstorm with heavy snowfall has shattered the hope of small tea growers of Tingkhong area. Unprecedented snowfall was reported from Rongsowal, Tipomia, Dhuwapathar, Dangpora, Gahi Pathar and several other parts of Tingkhong LAC, which has damaged the tea crops as well as other vegetable plants  also, causing a hopeless situation among villagers.
