SHILLONG: Former Khasi Student Union (KSU) leader Aguster Jyrwa, who is contemplating on contesting the MDC election in 2019 from Jaiaw constituency, is getting the support of Hamlet Dohling a former KSU leader himself. Dohling has extended his support to his former colleague in the organization.

Dohling, an MLA from Mylliem constituency and also a Minister in the MDA government, while speaking to The Sentinel said, “The KSU does not teach anyone that after leaving the Union they should join politics however we cannot be KSU leaders forever especially when you start having your own family.”

“He (Aguster Jyrwa) is a person who has constantly been there for the people and who has taken up many issues and problems encountered by the people of the State as a union leader and there are still many issues that are there and he needs to be with an organization or political party to take up those issues,” Dohling said. Expressing his support to Jyrwa, he, however, said that Jyrwa should join politics with a clear conscience and with a positive ideology and that is to help and serve the people of the State.

“I don’t know from which political party he will contest the MDC election. However, we were brothers in the KSU hence there is always the need to help one another,” he said.

It may be mentioned that in the past there have been many NGO leaders who have taken up politics as a career like Paul Lyngdoh, Jemino Mawthoh, Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, Embhahlang Syiemlieh besides others.
