Hardcore National Democratic Front of Boroland Cadre, Overground Worker Detained in Kokrajhar District, Assam

Kokrajhar, July 25: A hardcore cadre of the NDFB (S) and an overground worker were nabbed by the joint team of the army and police in Kokrajhar district on Wednesday. Sources from the army said in the intervening night of July 24 and July 25, acting on a tip-off regarding the movement of NDFB(S) cadres on the edges of Ripu reserve forest near Saralbhanga river, a joint operation involving Kokrajhar unit of Red Horns Division of Army and Kokrajhar Police was launched. The joint operation team noticed two suspected militants and challenged them.

On being challenged, the suspicious individuals attempted to escape but joint team personnel of Army and Police caught them. On spot interrogation, the individuals were revealed as Dikum Basumatary alias Derhasat, a self-styled sergeant, platoon commander of Kokrajhar area, aged 27 years and son of Sagarshing Basumatary, resident of Baitabil, Serfanguri in Kokrajhar district and the other individual is a hardcore overground worker of NDFB (S) identified as Jibiar Basumatary, aged 21 years, son of Abi Basumatary, resident of Narapuli, Kordanga, district Alipurduar in West Bengal.

Dehrasat is a seasoned 2013 Myanmar trained, 39th batch NDFB(S) cadre. These individuals have been involved in collection of extortion money, motivating the youth for fresh recruitment into NDFB(S) and other subversive activities. Search of these persons led to recovery of one foreign-made pistol, one country-made pistol and nine live rounds of ammunition from their possession.
