Shillong, January 10: The Cantonment Harijan Community has strongly condemned the contemptuous remark of an ex– cantonment board member.

Bimal Bajaj, a former member of the Cantonment Harijan Community, had on January 4 described the staff colony of the cantonment board as a “Sweeper Colony”.

Bajaj, was speaking at the meeting convened by Parasmal Bothra, a candidate of Ward No. 1 of the cantonment board. The Harijan community has also called for action against Bajaj according to law for using such an “improper and unconstitutiol word.”

Meanwhile, the organisation has also decided not to vote for Bothra.

“We appeal to all the members of the community and staff colony not to give their support in any manner to a person who has no respect for other fellow beings,” a statement from the Cantonment Harijan Community today said.
