After much sensation created by the gangrape of the CBSE topper, a ‘‘Mahapanchayat’’ of 25 villages in Haryana’s Rewari have now announced that none of the rapists will be assisted by any practicing lawyer. The Mahapanchayat, stating the issue has even submitted a written letter to Haryana governor Satyadev Naryana Arya stating their decision and requesting the government to take strict action against the accused.

However, not only the Mahapanchayat, but the Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar have also made a strict warning that if anybody is found helping the two absconding rapists in any way then there will be harsh punishment for the helpers.

Earlier, the CBSE topper was allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted by three men who also included an army man. The CM said, “Police have been directed to take strict action in the case. The other two accused in the case will also be arrested soon. Appeal to the public to not harbour them. Strict legal action will be taken against those who harbour them.”

Of the three accused, one Nishu was arrested on Sunday and other two including an army man named Pankaj are still absconding. Notably, Pankaj was on leave and was supposed to re-join his duty on Saturday which he didn’t comply to. The third accused Manish too is missing.
