Have courage to wage a war against B’deshis: AASU to PM Narendra Modi

Modi must commit the nation to drive away Bangladeshis

GUWAHATI, Aug 14: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) said on Tuesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should have courage to declare a war against illegal Bangladeshis living in Assam during his Independent Day speech to the nation from the historic Red Fort on Wednesday.

“On August 15, 1985 then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi during his speech addressing the nation from Red Fort announced signing of the historic Assam Accord which marked the end of the six-year-long anti-foreigners’ movement in Assam. But even after 33 years after signing of the historic Accord the burning illegal Bangladeshi infiltration issue remains unsolved, exposing complete lack of political will and sincerity of different governments in Delhi. So the present Prime Minister should have guts to announce and commit the nation tomorrow from the Red Fort that all illegal Bangladeshis will be detected and deported from Assam,” AASU chief advisor Samujjal Bhattacharjya said.

Bhattacharjya said the people of Assam are expecting to hear such a daring statement and commitment from the present Prime Minister. He said such commitment will go a long way to safeguard the country’s integrity and sovereignty.

It may be mentioned that Narendra Modi in his election rallies in Assam during the 2014 Lok Sabha polls promised that if the BJP came to power at the Centre all Bangladeshis would have to quit the State.

A press communiqué issued by AASU general secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi and president (in charge) Moni Madhab Mahanta on Tuesday evening stated that Delhi and Dispur were not at all sincere to implement the Assam Accord. It said the people of Assam are fed up with false promises of politicians on the vexed foreigners problem.

“False promises and insincerity of the Centre and State Government has resulted in Bangladeshis posing a grave threat to identity and survival of indigenous Assamese people,” Lurin Jyoti Gogoi said.
