Head Assistant arrested for taking bribe in Sivasagar, Assam

Guwahati, July 30: A team of officers from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DV&AC) arrested one Boloram Borgohain alias Bolo (54) red handed from his residence at Madhupur under Demow police station of Sivsagar district on Monday allegedly while he was receiving a bribe amount of Rs 25,000 from one Kantaram Doley and his wife.

Notably, Boloram has been serving as head assistant in the office of the Joint Director, Health, Sivasagar and he was arrested in connection with the ACB PS case no. 16/2018 u/s 7(a)/13(1)(a)/13(2) of PC Act, 1988 (as Amended in 2018).

According to DV&AC source, the wife of the complainant who is a nurse, had been transferred recently from Sonari to Siavasagar and she had made an application before Joint Director, Health Services, Sivasagar, for review of her transfer order. Notably, she had joined Sonari posting from Dibrugarh as per another transfer order just 7 months ago. The Joint Director had asked the petitioners to contact his head assistant in this matter and when the complainant approached the head assistant, he demanded Rs 50,000 as bribe for modification of the transfer order.

Hence, after receiving the complaint, the accused Boloram was caught red handed while he was receiving Rs. 25,000 as 1st installment from the complainant and his wife, whom he had asked to come to his residence at Demow to hand over the bribe amount.
