Health Camp Held For Inmates Of Central Jail, Silchar

SILCHAR: The Commoners Organisation, which evolved as a social uplift movement in Barak Valley, organized a health and distribution of menstrual hygiene product camp for inmates of the Central Jail, Silchar, recently. The organization inaugurated their welfare project ‘Beyond the Bars’ through which they will organize awareness camp and provide sanitary napkins for all the female inmates of the jail for the whole year. Beneficiaries who were examined and distributed medicines in the health camp included women, children and senior citizens of the jail and the people kept at detention centres.

The organization’s president, Dr Rohan Biswas, in his speech mentioned that jail is not a place for punishment, but one for reformation and health is a fundamental right of everyone and hence they have decided to work for the inmates of the Central Jail. The occasion was graced by journalist and social activist Taimur Raja Choudhury, PNC chairman Haran Dey and Jail Superintendent Satyendra Baishya. Dr Rohan Biswas, Dr Orko Paul, Dr Arpita Deb and Dr Supritam Das were part of the medical team who conducted the health check-up.

Members who organized the camp included Sourav Sutradhar, Sreeparna Purkayastha, Bishal Nath, Amit Chanda, Purvi Nath, Shantanu Narayan Deb, Prosenjit Bhowmick, Ratnam Deb Kanungo and others.
