Health camp organized in Meghalaya

A Correspondent

SHILLONG: The Department of Allied Health Sciences of Martin Luther Christian University conducted a health camp in Mawliehpoh, East Khasi Hills, Nongspung Syiemship.

More than 100 locals, including infants, turned up for the camp to have their anthropometric measurements like their height, weight and BMI taken. The chest, head and MUA circumference of the infants were measured to determine their nourishment. Besides these, the vital signs like pulse rates, BP and respiratory rates were also evaluated. Experts from Bansara Eye Care also provided a free eye check-up to everyone.

Doctors were made available throughout the day for a free consultation and free medicines were also given to the ones who needed them. The attendees were also given dietary consultation.

W Rani, the secretary of the town, expressed his gratitude to the university for taking this initiative.

However, the absence of a doctor in the town affects the locals greatly as they have to travel all the way to the Mawphlang CHC or to Civil Hospital, Shillong, when they need medical attention. They all expressed that a regular doctor is what they really need as a town.
