Health worker arrested in connection with fake birth certificates

MANGALDAI, June 21: The police investigation into the fake birth certificate racket operating in Darrang district since the NRC updating process, has achieved momentum with the arrest of a health worker serving under Kharupetia Primary Health Centre.

Razida Begam (30), wife of Ashad Ali of village Galandi under Kharupetia Police Station in Darrang district, who has been serving as an ASHA health worker, was reportedly arrested on Sunday in connection with supply of fake birth certificates. The arrested health worker in her confession before police mentioned that the racket provided fake birth certificates against a price amounting from Rs 400 to Rs 700 on each fake certificate and for each such transaction she collected Rs 100/150 as commission. A case ( No.209 / 2016) U/S 420/468/470/471 IPC has been registered at Kharupetia Police station in this regard and the court has sent the woman to the judicial custody. This is the second incident within this week when a person associated with government machinery has been arrested by police for their alleged involvement with the fake certificate racket. Earlier, Sirajul Haque, village headman of Darrang Bazar village under Dalgaon Police Station was arrested on June 16. However the brain behind this fake racket is yet to be brought to the light. It may be mentioned here that Additiol Deputy Commissioner of Darrang Bidyut Bikash Bhagawati  in charge of NRC updation in an FIR lodged before Dalgaon Police pointed out that more than 50  birth certificates submitted as proof of birth along with the NRC application have been verified as doubtful.
