GUWAHATI, June 30: At a time when the entire world is trying to cope up with the issues of Global Warming, Guwahati is not too far behind in the list of cities that have been affected by gradual increase in temperature.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Borjhar, Guwahati’s temperature will remain high for the next one week and is not going to decrease anytime soon. The temperature will increase from 36° C to 38°C. As per the predictions, the normal rainfall will be less as compared to the previous years. “The pollution in the city caused by the increase in the number of vehicles, the cutting down of trees and sudden deforestation, and building of houses are the reasons of climate change,” the centre added.

As per the Pollution Control Board, Assam, the green cover of the city is only 25% which is far below the required percentage of 33% as per UNESCO. The large number of cars and other vehicles plying in Guwahati add to pollution in the city.
