High Court summons Union Home Secretary

SHILLONG, Jan 4: JPN Singh, Director (NE.I), Union Home Ministry informed the Meghalaya High Court, that threat assessment in respect of Chief Justice/Judges of the High Court is underway even as the Court asked the Union Home Secretary to appear before it to assist the court in deciding on the security cover to the judges post-retirement.

The letter to the Meghalaya High Court which was written by J P N Singh, Director (NE.I), Union Home Ministry on December 31.

In the letter to the Meghalaya High Court the Union Home Ministry sought three weeks time for filing threat perception of the Judges of High Court of Meghalaya.

In the letter to the Meghalaya High Court, the Union Home Ministry informed that the security of Chief Justice and other Judges of the High Court of Meghalaya falls under the purview of the Government of Meghalaya.

Meanwhile, not satisfied by the reply of Singh, the Meghalaya High Court said that he, instead of solving the issues, seems to be in the habit of not taking any decision on one pretext or other.

“We, thus, think it appropriate to summon the Union Home Secretary for assistance and an early decision,” the Meghalaya High Court said.
