Hiking an excellent activity for Scouts & Guides: Yirang

Itagar, Jan 8: In all twenty-six scouts and twenty-five guides of Indira Gandhi Upper Primary School (IGUPS), Banskota (Pasighat), DTO T Padung and scoutmasters of different schools took part in a 2.7 km hiking from IGUP School to Komlighat at Pasighat in East Siang district on Saturday. Participants carried-out three activities including human-bridge, pyramid and installation of tent and presented songs and dances, an official report informed here today.

“Hiking can be an excellent activity for Scouts and Guides. When undertaking a hike or expedition, it encourages the participants to develop their skills of planning, teamwork and leadership,” said East Siang DDSE cum chief commissioner Jongge Yirang while taking part in the event. He appreciated the head-reacher cum scoutmaster of IGUPS A K Sinha and his associate teachers and staffs of the school for conducting the hiking successfully.

Yirang opined that such activities develop good habits like honesty, duty consciousness, patriotism, cleanliness and eco-friendly approach. Year after year, participation in such numerous activities creates a strong bond between the members and forms a lifelong support system for them, he added.

Earlier, scoutmaster Sinha presented a brief report on annual activities while DTO Padung and teacher Y T Burang delivered motivating lectures on adventurous activities like trekking and hiking, the report added.
