SHILLONG: The Hill State Peoples Democratic Party (HSPDP) on Monday released their manifesto for the upcoming KHADC polls scheduled for February 27, which includes demand for a separate Khasi and Jaintia State. The manifesto also includes the immediate need to resolve the inter-state boundary dispute with Assam, implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) and to further strengthen the powers of the district council, beside others.

During the release of the manifesto at the party head office in Shillong on Monday, all the 15 candidates of the party contesting the KHADC election were present at the function including HSPDP president KP Pangniang and Cabinet Minister Samlin Malngiang.

“There is also a need to push for the inclusion of the Khasi language in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution plus we also need our own mining plan or policy,” Pangniang said.

According to him, the State of Meghalaya also requires to have its own agriculture policy as it will greatly benefit the farmers and at the same time uplift their livelihood.

HSPDP against CAB: Hill State Peoples Democratic Party (HSPDP) president KP Pangniang today said the party is against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, as it not in the interest of the minority indigenous community of Meghalaya and the entire North-east region.

“The Central Government is planning to place the bill in the Rajya Sabha and if it is passed it will pose a danger to the indigenous people of the State,” Pangniang told reporter hers on Monday.

Concerning the MP election, he said, “We have already submitted our proposed candidate from the party – Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, MLA from Mawkyrwat constituency, as the common candidate for the Lok Sabha elections from Shillong constituency,” he said.

He informed that at present discussion are still under way with partners within the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) on the matter relating to fielding a common candidate in the Lok Sabha election.
“We will make a final call on this after the MDC election for both the KHADC and JHADC,” he said.
