Hima Das to Join National Camp on October 18

GUWAHATI: New track queen Hima Das, who is now considered as one of the best prospects for India in the forthcoming 2020 Olympics, is asked by the Athletic Federation of India (AFI) to join the national camp immediately and start the preparation for the Global event.

Hima, who is now on a break, will join the camp on October 18 at Patiala.

After the Asian Games, Athletic Federation of India allowed its athletes to take a break from the game and told them to join the National camp in the second week of October. The Federation issued a notice in this regard on October 1 in their website along with the list of athletes and their venues of the camp. The parent body also asked the athletes to report their respective venues by October 10. Hima was supposed to report Patiala for her camp but didn’t turn out as per the schedule.

A source from the Assam Athletic Association today admitted that the Federation is already chalked out details future plans not only for the athletes but also for the coaches for the forthcoming season and they don’t want to waste a single day. It is because of that Federation wants Hima to join the camp as early as possible.

Hima told to her close circle that although she didn’t join the camp but doing practice regularly in Guwahati with her coach Nipon Das. The sprinter is confident that she would be able to improve her performance level further in the coming days.

Hima got the support of her coach Nipon Das too. Das informed The Sentinel, “Hima may not join the camp because of some unavoidable circumstances but she didn’t miss her practice session and doing it here regularly. She will join the camp on October 18.”
