GUWAHATI, June 30: New queen of Indian athletics Hima Das meet Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at his official residence here today. Hima was accompanied by fastest athlete of the country Dutee Chand and a few officials of the Assam Athletic Association during this visit.

Hima collected two gold medals in the 58th Inter State Senior Athletic Championship which concluded at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium here yesterday. On the other hand Dutee Chand took gold in the womens 100m race and during the competition she also broke her own national record in this event.

During brief conversation Sonowal today advised both the athletes to concentrate on their training and brought laurels for the country from Asian Games which is scheduled to be held in Jakarta in August. He also appreciated Hima’s performance in the 58th Inter State Senior Athletic championship where she won gold medals in womens 200m and 400m.

Before the Asian Games Hima will participate in the World Junior Athletic Championship which is scheduled to be held in Finland in the second week of July.

Earlier talking to the media persons Hima said that she would now concentrate on forthcoming competitions-World Junior Athletics meet and Asian Games. “There is not too much time left in my hand. I will start my training within a couple of days and try my best to win medal from both the competitions.”

Commenting on her performance in the 58th Inter State Senior Athletic championship last night Hima told,“I have been working hard to improve my performance. Recently we attended a coaching camp which was arranged by our Federation abroad and it helped me a lot. I was optimistic that I would be able to win a medal in this championship.”
