Hima storms into final  of women 200 mts

GUWAHATI, June 26: As expected Assam queen Hima Das stormed into the final of the women 200mts in the 58th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championship at the Indira Gandhi Athletic stadium here today. Hima, who participated in the second heat, clocked 24.02 second to finish second. Reena George of Karnataka (24.00sec) finished the race ahead of her. The other six athletes who will run with Hima in the final are Harika (Telengana), Chandralekha (Tamil Nadu), Srabani Nanda (Odisha), Dutee Chand (Odisha), Ranga (Manipur) and Diandra Valladares (Maharashtra).

Meanwhile Jauna Murmu bagged the first gold medal of the competition in the women 400mts hurdle. The athlete from Odisha took 57.02 second to complete the race. Anu R of Kerala and Saritaben Gayakwad of Gujarat came second and third respectively. In the men’s section Harun Ayyasamy (Tamil Nadu), Santhosh Kumar (Tamil Nadu) and Jashanjot Singh (Punjab) took the first three positions.

In the women discuss throw event (1kg) Sandeep Kumari (58.41m) of Haryana bagged the gold medal. Kamalpreet Kaur (55.47m) and Navjeet Kaur Dhillon (54.67m), both from Punjab, collected silver and bronze respectively.

Meanwhile another Assam girl Laimwn Narzary narrowly missed a medal in the womens high jump today. Laimwn completed the event staying fourth place with a jump of 1.65m. Angel P Devasia (1,78m) of Kerala bagged gold while Rubina Yadav (1.75m) of Haryana and Abhinaya Shetty (1.70m) from Karnataka collected silver and bronze respectively.
