Himanta Biswa Sarma assures development of educatiol infrastructure in BTC

KOKRAJHAR, June 2: State Education, Fince and Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday visited Kokrajhar and inspected the current status of Bodoland University (BU) and Bineswar Brahma Engineering College and assured development of educatiol infrastructures for two premier higher educatiol institutions. He was accompanied by State BJP president Ranjit Dass, president of BPF-Hagrama Mohilary, Deputy Chief of BTC-Kampa Borgoyary and Rajya Sabha MP-Biswajit Daimary.

In an interaction with media persons, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that he visited the BU and BB Engineering College to take the present status of two premier institutions. He assured that he will take initiative for the development of infrastructures. Sarma ensured that an amount of Rs. 25 crore would be released by August this year for BU and Rs. 1 crore each for 48 colleges under Bodoland University.

Sarma while visiting the BB Engineering College held discussion with the principal of the college Kamal Kr. Brahma and took stock of the basic problems. He assured that he will pay special attention for constructions of boys and girls hostel, administrative building, the PHE in the campus of engineering college besides providing boundary wall. Presently, the BB Engineering College has no boundary and it has no of administrative building and hostels for boys and girls. Besides, there are lots of problems in academic line as well as shortage of teaching and non-teaching staffs. The BU is also facing problems of shortfall of teaching staff in each faculty.

Replying to questions, Sarma said this year, the laptops would be given to the students who passed the HSLC examition with star marks in all subjects. The serious shortfalls of teaching staff of other government schools were also briefed to the education minister during his visit in Kokrajhar. For instance, the govt. HS&MP School, Kokrajhar has 25 vacant posts for assistant and subject teachers since long which has given extremely poor result.

The setting up of Medical College at Kokrajhar has been a long pending demand and it is also a part of clauses of MoU of BTC accord. The Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ensured the huge crowd at Kokrajhar on the occasion of great people’s rally during Prime Minister rendra Modi’s visit on January 19, 2016 that Medical College at Kokrajhar would be given top priority if BJP comes to power and form government at Dispur but interestingly, no budget has been brought in this regard in the last budget session. He, however, said today that the construction of medical college at Kokrajhar would be started in this academic year itself.

Sarma also formally iugurated the RFID and Digital Library at Kokrajhar Science College. He assured that he will take necessary initiative for bringing double streams in single steam colleges.

Meanwhile, BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary while speaking to media persons at Bodoland Guest House said the BPF and BJP sat together at the guest house today and discussed certain core issues including educatiol related problems. He said Education Minister of the state Himanta Biswar Sarma has assured a sum of Rs. 25 crore for the infrastructure development of Bodoland University and also ensured fincial assistance for construction of girls hostel, administrative building in BB Engineering College. He also said that his council has also earmarked to release an amount of Rs. 9 crore for the construction of boundary wall and boys hostel in engineering college.

Mohilary while replying to question said that the foundation stone for construction of Medical College at Kokrajhar has already been laid couple of years back and today Sarma has assured to start the work from this academic year. He expected that a supplementary budget could be held to include Kokrajhar Medical College in the budget. He also hoped that the problems of education sector would be solved.

Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary who is also the chairman of Governing Body of Kokrajhar Science College said he was happy that the college has been placed in 186th position of all India ranking. He said Rs. 1 crore was given for the construction of RFID and Digital Library at Kokrajhar Science College which was iugurated by education minister.
