HNLC bandh call toughens Government stand

Shillong, February 13: The proscribed HNLC has called a 12-hours shutdown on February 16 in the wake of the series of developments that followed the tiol Green Tribul (NGT) ban on unscientific coal mining.

However, the Meghalaya government has taken all steps to ensure that government offices, institutions and banks function normally on that day. The government has also encouraged all private and public transport operators to ply their vehicles normally and all commercial establishments to function as usual.

In addition to the commercial transport system, public transport will run normally to serve the public and the government has made elaborate security arrangement in cities and towns and along all highways for ensuring smooth flow of traffic during the shutdown. All educatiol institutions will also be covered by adequate security force.

A statement from the political department stated, “The government takes this opportunity to appeal to all the citizens in the State to firmly denounce such anti-social acts and to assist the law enforcing machinery in the dutiful discharge of its obligations and to go about their normal day to day activities for the benefit of those citizens who especially depend on such activities for their basic livelihood”.
