HNYF submits memorandum to Chief Minister

SHILLONG, July 21: The Hynniewtrep tiol Youth Front (HNYF), West Jaintia Zone on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma seeking clarification on the delay in setting up of Community and Rural Development Block Office (C&RD) at mdong village of the district.

“The State government in 2013 had proposed to set up C&RD Block Office at mdong but two years have passed and there is still no sign to indicate that the government is serious on its proposal,” Wanbun N Dkhar, president HNYF, West Jaintia Zone told media persons here on Tuesday.

Dkhar said that they have written to the Chief Minister seeking information regarding the progress in construction of this new C&RD Block Office at mdong Village.

According to him, there are three C&RD Block Offices in West Jaintia Hills district situated at Thadlaskein, Laskein and Amlarem.

“Among the three C&RD Block Offices, the biggest one is in Thadlaskein since it is the district headquarter with over 78,787 people residing in this block in over 220 villages as per the census of 2008,” Dkhar said adding that based on this they have appealed to the State government to speed up the process in building this new C&RD Block Office at Nomdong. Dkhar informed that as per the proposal of the State government they had decided that 60 percent of villages under Thadlaskein C&RD Block and 40 percent villages under Laskein Block would come under the new C&RD Block Office at Nomdong village to ensure smooth operation.

“We want the government to immediately speed up the process in building this new C&RD Block at Nomdong, so that it will also provide much need help for the people who are staying miles away from the C&RD Block Office located that Thadlaskein,” Dkhar said. The HNYF leader also stated that they are ready to cooperate with the State government so that the work which is pending since 2013 can be finished at the earliest.
