Hoax Calls for Installation of Mobile Phone Towers in Udalguri, Assam

TANGLA: Fraudsters have come up with new and ingenious methods to con gullible people. They make hoax calls to people and assure them heavy returns after installation of cell phone towers in terraces or open spaces. People in different parts of the State, including a good number of people of Udalguri district, have reportedly been receiving such hoax calls and messages on their social media handles. The people of Udalguri district have been getting phone calls from the number 7890260563. A lady, identifying herself to be a customer care executive of Reliance Jio, assure people to install Jio cell phone towers in their terrace or open space after payment of the processing fee. They are promised Rs 50,000 to Rs 70,000 per month in return.

There has, however, been no report of people falling prey to such fraud. Though no police complaint has been lodged, people have been urged to remain conscious and alert against such fraudsters. “None of the telecom companies collect any commission from the land owners and the agents who have been given the task of tower installation. We have been strictly advised in this matter,” said an official of a tower installation company based in Guwahati.
