Home Minister Rajnath Singh Assures CM Sarbananda Sonowal of All Help To Tackle Post-NRC

NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has assured Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal of extending all help to tackle the law-and-order situation in the post-NRC (National Register of Citizen) phase.

Sonowal, accompanied by the State Chief Secretary and the DGP, had a meeting with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on the probable law-and-order situation that the State might face after the publication of the final NRC. Both Sonowal and Singh were on the same wavelength that the responsibility of providing security to each and every citizen lies with the government.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday reiterated that the final NRC will be published on time and also that no genuine Indian citizen will be harassed in the name of NRC.

“As directed by the Supreme Court, we are publishing the final NRC before July 31. I would like to reiterate that no genuine Indian citizen will be harassed in the process,” said Sonowal after meeting Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Sonowal appraised Singh about the State’s preparedness for publishing the final NRC.

Sonowal, however, appealed to the people concerned to attend the NRC hearing processes for claims and objections. “I appeal to everyone to attend for claims and objections. People in Assam have been supporting the update process…” said Sonowal. He called for similar cooperation from people of the State which was extended during the publication of the first and the final drafts of NRC in maintaining law-and-order situation in the State.

He also called on all genuine citizens not to panic in any situation and he assured them of all help during the claims and objection process of NRC.

Appreciating the Assam Police for being able to nab all those behind the grenade blast in such a short time, Sonowal stressed the unequivocal condemnation of the dastardly incident from all quarters and asserted the State government’s resolve to strongly crush all such forces acting against the interest of the State and its people. “The State government is striving towards bringing rapid development to the State and for that purpose, maintaining a peaceful environment is a must,” he stated.

Talking on the exit poll survey, the Chief Minister said that the NDA government is again returning to power. “Narendra Modi will become our Prime Minister for the second term,” stressed Sonowal.

Sonowal was accompanied by DGP Kula Saikia, IGP SB Hiren Nath among other officials. Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, Satyendra Garg, joint secretary (NE) were also present in the meeting.
