HSDC miffed at Meghalaya Deputy CM’s statement

From a Correspondent
HAMREN, March 25:  The Hill State Demand Council (HSDC) has strongly objected to the alleged statement of RC Laloo, Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, which appeared in some newspapers, stating that Block-I and Block-II would be annexed by Meghalaya.
“In the first place we would like to state that the so-called Block-I and Block-II existed prior to 1951 and after the creation of Karbi Anglong district in 1951 and creation of Autonomous Council of karbi Anglong in 1952, Block-I and Block-II ceased to exist. Second, Blocks I-II though existed prior to 1951, were the areas covered by developmental blocks only and not areas inhabited by people of Jaintia-Khasi origin. Meghalaya cannot simple claim some areas along the border with Karbi Anglong as these areas are inhabited by some people of Jaintia-Khasi origin. Similarly, there are many areas in Meghalaya which are inhabited by Karbis, even deep inside the territory of Meghalaya which Karbi Anglong cannot claim. It is the weakness and incompetency of the BJP-ruled Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council that has emboldened Meghalaya to stch the land of Karbi Anglong which the Hill State Demand Council will never tolerate. The BJP has not only failed to protect the border with Meghalaya but the party has also failed to protect all the borders of Karbi Anglong, including with galand,” alleged Daniel Teron, secretary propaganda of HSDC.
