ITANAGAR: An elderly woman, aged about 75, was found by the Army in a dense jungle alone in Lathao area of Namsai district where she survived for about 15 days in a very pitiable condition with only one umbrella to save her from inclement weather. The Army team coordinated by an ADC came to her rescue and she was brought to the district hospital, according to sources from Namsai.

A medical team under the supervision of senior doctors conducted various tests immediately. Following the treatment, her condition stabilized and she is showing signs of improvement.

Regrettably, Namsai district with a total population of 95,950 including 46,094 females as per the 2011 Census is the only Aspirational district among 26 districts of the State which has been represented by present Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein since 1995 as its lawmaker.

Interestingly, between 2011-12 and 2017-18, the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of the State increased at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14.06% to Rs 243.53 billion (US$ 3.78 billion) whereas the per capita GSDP increased at a CAGR of 11.79% to Rs 154,229 (US$ 2,393). But this heart rendering incident questions the very tem ‘per capita’ as she was excluded from such growth and who knows how many Arunachalees like her are unlucky.
