Hunger For Power Has Made AGP Ministers Betray Matribhoomi: Tarun Gogoi

GUWAHATI: While the entire state is speculating the alliance of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress ex-CM Tarun Gogoi termed it as a weak attempt for two insecure parties to stay in power.

At a press conference on Thursday, Gogoi sardonically remarked that AGP has played their cards well by joining hands with BJP. Recalling the thunderous oppositions during Citizenship (Amendment) Bill implementation, where AGP clamored that they would never forgive the ruling party for their audacious move, “the party was quick enough to change their tune as the election approaches”, Tarun Gogoi contemplated. “This alliance proves the hypocrisy of AGP.”

Gogoi speculated that ministers such as Atul Bora, Keshab Mahanta, Phani Bhusan Choudhury, among others have tasted the power of minister-ship, making it impossible for them to refrain from it. “These ministers resigned from their posts during the CAB fiasco but they were unable to stray far from the power and renewed their union with BJP. Their taste for power has made the AGP ministers greedy enough that they will betray matribhoomi at the bat of an eyelid.”

Sharing his thoughts on the ruling party, Gogoi commented, “The huge claims made by BJP have yielded no results. They assured that prices of commodities will reduce, unemployed youths will get job opportunities but the truth is that prices have increased and unemployed youths are still jobless. Slogans of jati mati aru bheti are empty words as the BJP is selling off Assam instead.”

“Be it AGP or BJP, we will expose them in public. Himanta Biswa Sharma has also realized that he alone will not be able save his seat and has commenced an alliance with AGP. The BJP has even taken advantage of our martyared jawans. This government has seeped in corruption in every sector, be it agriculture, irrigation, coal syndicate, police transfer, or any other.”

Gogoi concluded the press meet remarking, “BJP is the richest party now. Congress cannot hide money in their open palm but BJP has money hidden inside every petal of their lotus.”
