Hynniewtrep Youth Council conveys displeasure over slow implementation

SHLLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Nongthliew Circle has expressed their displeasure on the current progress lack luster implementation of the Umthlong Combined Water Supply scheme at Nongthliew village.

In this connection, the Council has also filed a Right to Information (RTI) from the office of the executive engineer of Mairang division.

Addressing reporters in the city on Tuesday, Joplang Kharnaior president HYC Nongthliew Circle informed that after receiving the RTI report today morning the council members today inspected the area which the scheme is being implemented by the PHE department along with executive engineers of Mairang division, BDO, headman beside others.

“We have found that the scheme is not being implemented in the correct manner as even the construction of the pipe line is not satisfactory as there are no concrete pillars to support the pipes,” he said.

He also said that the Council is not satisfied with the construction of the source of supplying the water to Nongthliew village as the construction is of a very bad quality.

“We have had discussion with the executive engineer of Mairang division and requested him that the scheme should be implemented as per the guideline,” he said.

Informing that the Umthlong Water Supply scheme is sanctioned at a cost of Rs. 7, 41, 68, 000, he said, “ This scheme is yet to be completed and its only about 48 percent completed as per the RTI report however in our observation during the inspection it seems that the scheme has been completed only around 25 percent.” He said the Council has also urged the concern department to complete the project within this year because in 2019 there is a congregation of people belonging to the Christian faith at Umthlong. When asked, he said, “The Executive engineer has assured us that the target of the department is to complete the entire implementation of the scheme within this month.”
