I/C of Dhamdhoma Police Out Post caught red-handed while accepting bribe

Guwahati: Today evening at around 6 pm, Sub-Inspector Panbendra Das (59), I/C of Dhamdhoma Out Post under Ghoghrapara PS, District Nalbari was caught red-handed by the Assam ACB Team led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police while accepting a Bribe amount of Rs 6,000 from complainant Hussain Ali.

The bribe money has been seized from the possession of the accused.

As per a press statement by Assam Police, the accused had demanded a bribe of Rs. 20000 (Twenty Thousand) for providing relaxation in an alleged matter of cross-case.

The complainant had already paid the first instalment of Rs. 4,000 on Monday, however, the accused was taking another instalment when he was caught.

The complainant is the father of a recent rape victim (Ghoghrapara PS Case No. 264/2018) who is a minor by age.

The accused in the rape case was arrested by district police and the family of the arrested accused in that matter had filed a cross-case (Ghoghrapara PS Case No. 348/2018) relating to some loan matter against the father of the rape victim.

In this matter, the I/C has started threatening the rape victim’s poor father with arrest, during a time when he has arranged for the marriage of his elder daughter on December 14.

Interestingly, after getting contributions from the community members the complainant had approached the ACB PS in the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti Corruption and a Trap was laid down as per standard procedure.

This refers to ACB PS Case No 25/2018 under section 7(a)/13(1)(b)/13(2) of PC Act (as amended in 2018).

It may be mentioned that another Police Officer ASI of the sake police station is also a named accused in the matter as he too had colluded in the demand of bribe.

Further Investigation is being carried on.

It may further be mentioned that the accused had been arrested and will be forwarded to the Special Court tomorrow morning.
