Independence Day preparations underway at Sivasagar,Assam

SIVASAGAR, July 18: The Sivasagar district administration is making all-out preparations for holding the 72nd Independence Day in a befitting manner. Chairing a meeting with administration officials and district heads of different departments, eminent citizens and representatives of various parties, organizations and NGOs at the DC’s conference hall recently, Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha called upon all concerned for cooperation in order to celebrate Independence Day in the most befitting manner.

District Development Commissioner Abhijit Baruah read out the programme schedule of Independence Day which he stated would kick-off with prabhat pheri at 5 am on August 15. He further informed the gathering that as per the itinerary, other listed agenda for the day were playing of patriotic songs, hoisting of national flag at various government offices, educational institutions, public organizations and institutions, distribution of fruits and clothes among the jail inmates, specially-abled children and pregnant women at Civil Hospital, and competitions to be held among school students on art, quiz and essay.

Later, after the formal hoisting of national flag by the chief guest at Boarding Field, the main event of Independence Day celebration will begin from 9 am, as per schedule. The security aspect was also reviewed with senior officials of the civil and police administration after taking stock of the law-and-order situation. The meeting was attended, among others, by Superintendent of Police Subodh Sonowal, ADC Nawab Al Azhar Ali, Army and CRPF personnel, leading citizens, NGOs and merchants’ association.
