IB special director takes stock of security situation at Indo-Myanmar border

Imphal, April 6: Intelligence Bureau special director RN Ravi has arrived in Manipur to take stock of the security situation along the Indo-Myanmar border. The visit is significant as Ravi, who is also the Government of India interlocutor to the ongoing Indo-ga peace talks, has reportedly been directed to bring a lasting solution to the 18-year-old political dialogue with the NSCN-IM. During his trip, Ravi was accompanied by Ministry of Home Affairs Joint Secretary (North East) Shambhu Singh and Joint Secretary (BM) HK Makwa. He was scheduled to travel to Behiang in the Churachandpur district by helicopter; however the visit was cancelled due to bad weather.  During his trip, Ravi has held talks with top officials of the state, discussing key issues including the increasing trend of ambushing security forces in the border areas, cross-border smuggling of drugs and weapons, and so on. Ravi also collected a first-hand report from the Assam Rifles, regarding the inconveniences being faced by the forces while taking up security measures to fight militants operating in the border areas.
