IMA Tezpur expresses concern over escalation of violence against doctors

Tezpur, Jan 18: The Tezpur chapter of Indian Medical Association (IMA) observed tiol Solidarity Day on Tuesday as per the decision of the Indian Medical Association to give a clarion call to doctors to stand united against various manhandling incidents and atrocities upon doctors.

In a press release, State honorary secretary of IMA, Dr Atul Kalita said that hospitals were becoming dangerous places to work. “Violence in work place is a serious issue. Safety in hospitals is taken for granted; but unfortutely the opposite seems to be true. Indian Medical Association expresses its concern regarding the escalation of violence against doctors,” he said, adding IMA Tezpur Branch along with IMA HQ New Delhi, all State branches and local branches strongly condemned the unwanted incidents taking place across the country in the medical field, including the heinous murder of Dr. Ashwani Kumar Bansal, renowned Laparoscopic surgeon in Allahabad, UP, that has shaken the medical fraternity. “More so because he was murdered in cold blood in his own Jeevan Jyoti Hospital while he was treating patients in his chamber on January 13,” he said.

Expressing serious concern over the incidents, he also mentioned that few days back an MP manhandled a doctor in Kartaka while three doctors in Pune were unjustly charged with murder and arrested in an incident of aphylaxis.

 After registering strong protest against the atrocities upon the doctors often reported across the tion by wearing black badges, IMA members demanded  the government to ensure safety at work place.
