Kokrajhar, Sept 30: The immersion of idol of Goddess Durga passed off peacefully in Kokrajhar on Saturday as no untoward incident was reported. However, the incessant rains since Friday morning disrupted the immersion.
The immersion was held at River Gaurang in Kokrajhar town where over 53 idols of Goddess Durga were immersed. Since the immersion site was flooded due to rise of water level, the idols were forced to be thrown from the Gaurang Bridge. The main idol of Kokrajhar market was immersed from the river bank while others thrown out from the bridge.
The DC, SP and other higher officials, including leaders of BTC, were present. The immersion of idol was also reportedly peaceful at Gossaigaon, Fakiragram, Serfanguri, Dotma and Bhaoraguri.
