In triangular fight Badruddin Ajmal comes out winner in Dhubri

DHUBRI: In a triangular fight, Badruddin Ajmal came out winning with less margin of votes compared to 2014 from Dhubri, and AIUDF have saved the face by winning this lone seat. The party had three MPs from Dhubri, Barpeta and Karimganj in 2014, but it lost two other seats- Karimganj to BJP and Barpeta to Congress.

However, it was a hectic win since 2009 and Congress which had strong bastion in this seat losing at the hand of Ajmal. Though there were 15 candidates in the fray from Dhubri MP seat but it was predicted to be a triangular battle among AIUDF, Congress and AGP, and so it was.

Out of total 16,76,027 valid votes polled, AIUDF candidate Badruddin Ajmal secured 7,18,764 while Congress candidate, Abu Taher Bepari secured 4,92,506 and alliance candidate from AGP, Zabed Islam secured 3,99,733. Rest of 12 candidates could not even cross 8,000 figure.

So, winning margin of Ajmal this time was 2,26,256 votes which is less compared to 2014. It was 2,29,830, so his winning margin have not increased rather gone little dip.

In 2009, Ajmal secured a total of 5,40,820 votes while Congress candidate, Anowar Hussain got a total of 3,56,401 votes. Similarly, in 2014, Ajmal secured 5,92,669 votes while Congress candidate, Wazed Ali Choudhury secured 3,62,839 votes. So Ajmal in two occasion, won the seat by nearly 2 lakh and over lakhs votes.
