Increased rainfall in this monsoon : IMD

STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI, May 4: A bad news for the city dwellers, particularly for those residing in the artificial flood-prone areas like Anil Nagar, Nabin Nagar and R G Baruah Road, as the India Meteorological Department has revealed that the ensuing monsoon will receive an increased amount of rainfall. Talking to The Sentinel on Friday, the department informed, “The city will receive heavy thundershower in June and July. However, the amounts will relatively go down in the latter half of the month of July.”
Such weather forecast will obviously panic the city residents as most of the drains are still under construction. Moreover, de-siltation of water bodies and river basins and sub basins are either initiated or yet to be set off at all. Under such circumstances, the city residents will simply be hardened to face the recurring calamities again.
Reacting to the forecast, some residents of Anil Nagar exclaimed that the cleanliness of drainage systems is going quite slow. Moreover, the garbage dumped on the streets is also not regularly disposed off which will intensify the disaster. “Cleaning of drainages and disposing of garbage just right before the monsoon is a routine job habitually performed by the GMC officials,” the residents added.
