Indefinite hunger strike staged

Haflong, April 30: Demanding immediate upgrade of the Khejurband to Koladisa road (67km) by a reputed construction company, reintroduction of ASTC bus service from Haflong to Khepre  and Hajadisa to Haflong to and fro, and  immediate electrification of all the villages of Dima Hasao, the people of Langting Dibu area of Dima Hasao observed sit-in and hunger strike under the leadership of Bahim Chandra Langthasa, the founder and former president of Jadikhe Naisho Hosom, Dimasa apex body, at Badsabari, 7 km from Maibang on Monday. The sit-in and hunger strike started in presence of a number of people from Langting Dibu area, though some people prevented the villagers of this area from joining in the protest.

Gaon buras of several villages of Langting Dibu expressed their concern over the indifferent attitude of the administration and also authority concerned. They repeatedly appealed to the Chief Minister to hear about their plight. Later, Assistant Commissioner Gaurab Kumar Das from Maibang Civil subdivision reached the protest site and accepted the memorandum, assuring to move the government accordingly, following which the day-long dharna and indefinite hunger strike was called off temporarily.
