India and US Hold '2 + 2' Talk, Sushma Swaraj and Nirmala Sitharaman Representing India

India engages in a bilateral talk with the US today. The 2+2 talks between Sushma Swaraj, Nirmala Sitharaman and Mike Pompeo, James Mattis have already begun at 11:05 AM today. At the end of the talk, the 4 leaders are to address a Joint Press Statements at MEA in which a strong statement against terror and on India-US ties will be made by both the parties.

So far, the bilateral talk between External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and the United States Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has concluded.

However, the high level meet between India Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and U.S. Secretary of Defence, General James Mattis has also concluded and the two have headed for 2+2 dialogue.

The issues discussed during this 2 plus 2 meet between the US and India delegate mainly focuses on Afghanistan, Iran sanctions, China along with putting more efforts on deepening bilateral defence services. Moreover, a tri-lateral military exercise could also be firmed up involving the Army, Air Force and Navy.

As per sources, the much talked US sanctions against Iran which makes trade with Iran illegal is also scheduled to be discussed with the US delegates.

Terrorism is going to take a front seat in the 2 plus 2 discussions and both the parties hope to reach a favourable conclusion after the bilateral meets. As scheduled, after the India-US meet, the two US officials will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi later in the day.
