India, Chi vow to strengthen law enforcement ties

New Delhi, November 20: India and Chi on Friday agreed that bilateral cooperation in the field of law enforcement was “very important”, and the two neighbours should take their “relations to a higher level”.

In a 40-minute long meeting between Union Home Minister Rajanth Singh, who is currently visiting Chi, and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, both sides agreed that their ties would not only benefit the region but also the world, an official statement issued here said.

“... There is a common consensus to take bilateral relations to a higher level. In this context, it was agreed that bilateral cooperation in the field of law enforcement is very important,” it added.

Rajth Singh also met State Councillor and Minister for Public Security Guo Shengkun and secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of Chi, Meng Jian Zhu.

There was a general agreement between two the countries that urbanisation and technological advancements posed new challenges for law enforcement agencies.

The two sides felt there is merit in exchanging views on these challenges and initiate a process of mutual sharing, experiences and learning. It was agreed to cooperate in capacity building, the statement said. (IANS)
