India likely to domite in Track & Field

GUWAHATI, Feb 8: The exciting Track & Field event of the 12th South Asian Games will kick off tomorrow at Indira Gandhi Athletic stadium. There will be 10 medal events on day I.

India, who will put 68 members strong squad including Rio Olympic Games-bound Inderjeet Singh, are expected to domite the track and field event.  Annu Rani, MR Poovamma and Arokia Rajiv are among the top Indian athletes who will be the star attraction on the first day of the championship. Annu, a top Javelin thrower, won gold medal in 55th tiol Open Athletics Championship in 2015 while Rajiv won a gold in the second leg of the Asian Grand Prix in June last year. Arju Awardee Poovamma bagged a bronze in the individual women’s 400m race and a gold in the 4x400m relay race in the Incheon Asian Games.

The first day of the athletic competition will witness few popular event which included Long Jump and High Jump, 400 meter, 800 meter 5000 meter and the most popular and attractive 100 meter race.
