Indian women thrash Lanka in first ODI

Ranchi, Feb 15: Indian women produced an all-round performance to outclass Sri Lanka by 107 runs in the first One-Day Intertiol (ODI) match at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association Stadium here on Monday.

Batting first India posted 245/6 in 50 overs, thanks to half-centuries from Smriti Mandha (55) and Harmanpreet Kaur (50).

In reply, the visitors suffered a severe batting collapse as they were bundled out for 138 in 45.2 overs.

Poom Yadav (4-22), Deepti Sharma (2-20) and Rajeshwari Gayakwad (2-32) were the pick of the bowlers for the home side.

Chasing a challenging target of 246, Sri Lanka lost opener Chamari Atapattu in the second over itself.

From there on Prasadani Weerakkody (69) and Lasanthi Madushani (15) held on to score at a slow rate but failed to build a big partnership. The second wicket fell in the 15th over.

Soon after, Oshadi Rasinghe (12) and Eshani Lokusuriyage (15) fell in quick succession to have the visitors in a spot of bother at 122/4 in the 36th over.

Sri Lanka then collapsed from 122 for 4 to 138 all out.

Earlier, India made the most of their batting strength, piling on runs in power plays at a healthy rate to post a commendable total.

Beside half-centurions Smriti and Harmanpreet, captain Mithali (49) missed her 40th One-Day half century by just one run.

For Sri Lanka, Udeshika Prabodhani and Shashikala Siriwardene claimed two wickets each.
