Information About Smart Policing & Role of CCTNS

The crime graph continues apace, so does policing. In sync with criminals and policemen it is the citizenry that needs to be techno-savvy. And this is possible through the CCTNS (Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems). The CCTNS is a mission mode project under the National e-Governance Plan. It aims at creating a comprehensive and integrated system for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of policing, commonly called as smart policing. E-Governance and the nationwide networking infrastructure have made CCTNS what it is. It has evolved an IT-enabled state-of-the-art tracking system. It helps the police in investigation of crimes and detection of criminals.

The CCTNS has an improved delivery of citizen-centric services through the effective usage of ICT (Information and Communication Technology). An instance of proper application of the CCTNS in Assam is that the Assam Police has developed a mobile application under CCTNS. The application will enable an individual to lodge complaints from a far off area without visiting the police station concerned.
