Inter-school debate for rural students organised

GUWAHATI, Feb 7: The 3rd Inter School Debate Competition for Rural Children organised by Al-Ameen Islamic Model School Alumni Association & Bagh Hazarika Centre for Cultural Studies was held at Goroimari in Kamrup Rural District on Saturday. The topic of the debate was ‘Social media is beneficial for the younger generation.’

Participating students, who came from Goroimari and adjacent areas, presented their arguments in lucid Assamese and English. At times, the debate rose to great standards and the performance of the young students was greeted with thunderous applause.

On completion of the programme, Dr vanil Barua, Director of Neurosurgery at GNRC Hospitals, Guwahati who acted as the Speaker of the Debate, lauded the efforts of the organisers in holding such a programme in a rural area. He said, “It is important to get education, but without command over language and without proper communication skill, one cannot meet success in today’s world.” He expressed the hope that more such extracurricular activities will be organised for rural children so that they can excel in various fields and make the State proud.

Wahida Ahmed, Mukut Ahmed, Dr Shamim Ahmed, Nurul Laskar, Aman Wadud, Kaniz Fatima, Mumeniz Zaman, Salma Hussain, and Nidarsha Mahanta were present on the occasion as resource persons.

Umme Rumman Islam of Al-Ameen Islamic Model School, Goroimari was adjudged as the best debater while the second and third positions were taken by Asmi Khatun of Mohimari Senior Madrassa and Monirul Islam of Al-Ameen Islamic Model School, Goroimari respectively. The first three positions in team category went to Al-Ameen Islamic Model School, Goroimari; Mohimari Senior Madrassa; and Sontoli HS School respectively. The winners were awarded trophy, certificate, and cash prizes. A number of cultural programmes were also organised by the hosts on the occasion. This was stated in a press release.
