International Day of the Girl Child Observed in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar: Nedan Foundation, a Kokrajhar based NGO working for combating human trafficking for more than a decade, observed the Day of the Girl Child and the International Day of the Girl on Friday. The Day of Girls helps raise awareness not only on the issues that girls face, but also what is likely to happen when those problems are solved. The programme started at the Chikwnajhar Bathou Foraisali Playground at Bishmuri.

The theme of the programme was ‘Sports for Girls Development’ so Nedan Foundation held a girls’ football friendly match. Kokrajhar Football Club Kokrajhar, Nilaijhora NERSWN Football Club, Bir Dhani Murmu Club Joypur, Kachugaon Football Club, Chikwnajhar Bathou School Football Team and Girls’ United Football Club, Jaharbari took part in the event. The football tournament was organized to encourage the girls of the district to empower themselves in the sports sector. Kokrajhar Girls’ Football Club beat Girls’ United Football Club 6-0 in the final match. Apurna Narzary of Kokrajhar Girls’ Football Club was given the best player of the match award.
