‘International Force Behind Protests Against CAB’: State BJP President Ranjit Dass

LAKHIMPUR: An International force is behind the protest programmes in Assam against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, said State BJP President Ranjit Dass in Lakhimpur on Thursday.

“An international racket is behind the protest and agitation programmes against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 without any doubt. We will never allow the racket to fulfil its motive to stir Assam as well as the nation,” he stated while addressing a press meet held at Lakhimpur Circuit House in connection with a Youth Convention to be held on February 17.

Regarding the CAB issue, he further added that the BJP tried to fulfil its commitment through the Bill, to do justice to the victims of religious persecution who have been taking refuge in India. The Bill could be passed in the Lok Sabha due to its majority, but the party and the Union Government decided not to table the Bill in Rajya Sabha due to less number of BJP MPs in the Upper House. “The non-tabling of the Bill in Rajya Sabha was not BJP’s failure, but the decision of the party and the government.

So, the Congress should feel ashamed to present itself as the hero in front of the nation regarding the issue, taking the advantage of this for political gain,” he added further. In connection, Ranjit Das criticized the Congress with strong terms. He said that Assam was lagging far behind due to the Congress which never made any attempt to implement the Assam Accord.

“Only the BJP-led Union Government is taking effective steps to implement the Assam Accord to safeguard the indigenous people of the State. The Congress has never done it because the implementation of Clause 6 will put an end to the political bazaar of the party in Assam. For the greed for power politics sponsored by the Congress in the past 60 years, the lower part of Assam, which were the kingdoms of Naranaryan and Chilarai, became full of doubtful citizens. The Congress government never attempted to construct fencing along the Indo-Bangla border to check infiltration from Bangladesh. Only Congress is the patron of illegal foreigners in Assam,” he alleged. He informed the media persons that BJP would not form any alliance with AGP in upcoming parliamentary election.

In the press meet, the president declared that preparation for the smooth conduct of the Youth Convention to be held in Lakhimpur was under way. The convention will be held at the Sport Stadium at Chandmari near North Lakhimpur town on February 17, under the aegis of Assam State committee of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Marcha. A total of 1 lakh youth activists of the youth wing of the party, covering Lakhimpur and Tezpur parliamentary constituencies, will take part in the extravaganza which is being organized in order to strengthen BJP’s organizational base in view of the upcoming general election.

BJP central president Amit Shah, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarmah along with many other party dignitaries will grace the occasion. “BJP has chalked out some other strategies to strengthen its organization and these will be administered on February 26 and March 2 across the nation,” Ranjit Dass said further.

Dass took stock of the preparation of the Youth Convention on Thursday along with BJP leader Phani Sarmah, spokesman Jayanta Malla Baruah, Bihpuriya MLA Debananda Hazarika, Lakhimpur district unit BJP president Phanidhar Baruah and other party leaders.
